Je souhaite la bienvenue à Son Excellence le Premier Ministre Maïga.   Nous avons tous été horrifiés par la récente recrudescence de la violence dans le centre du Mali, en particulier par le meurtre d’au moins 160 civils le week-end dernier dans le village d’Ogossagou, dans la région de Mopti.

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General The Secretary-General welcomes the establishment of a government in the Central African Republic (CAR) in line with the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation signed in Bangui on 6 February. The Secretary-General commends the leadership role of the African Union in particular in the successful conclusion of the consultations that were held in Addis Ababa from 18 to 20 March, with United Nations support on CAR.

The Secretary-General is shocked and outraged by reports that at least 134 civilians, including women and children, have been killed and at least 55 have been injured following an attack this morning on Ogossagou Peulh village, Mopti region, in central Mali.    The Secretary-General condemns this act and calls on the Malian authorities to swiftly investigate it and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Mr. Chair, Distinguished delegates, Thank you for this opportunity to brief the Special Committee on our priorities for taking forward Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) commitments in 2019. Since the Secretary-General launched Action for Peacekeeping almost a year ago today, it has become our core agenda for peacekeeping. The Secretary-General welcomes the 20th anniversary on 1 March of the entry into force of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention – a Convention that has saved countless lives, stopped mutilation and injury and enabled the revitalization of livelihoods.

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.   It is good to be back in this room after almost two years.   Thank you very much for being here as President Peter Maurer and I, together with Madame Julienne Lusenge, launch an urgent joint appeal for global action to prevent and end sexual and gender-based violence in and around conflict.
