New Head of MINURSO arrives in Laayoune

On 28 December, Colin Stewart, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara and Head of MINURSO, arrived in Laayoune.

 

He was met by the Governor in charge of the Coordination with MINURSO, Hamid Barez and the Mission’s senior staff. Later he met the Wali of the Region of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra and Governor of Laayoune Province, Yahdih Bouchaab.

 

Upon his arrival in Laayoune, Stewart stated that he was looking forward to working closely with the parties to ensure the continued implementation of the Mission’s mandate.

On 1 December, the UN Secretary-General 2017 appointed Colin Stewart of Canada to the post, succeeding Kim Bolduc of Canada, who completed her assignment on 22 November 2017.
